Kilbogget Park Flood Storage System

Kilbogget Park Flood Storage System

Construction of the scheme commenced in October 2020 the structure is built to hold back water in the stream located within Kilbogget Park during very heavy rainfall and allow waters to build up safely in the wetland area for a short period of time . The water is then release slowly in order to protect properties from flooding downstream in the Wyattville and Killiney Environs. The large screen within the structure is designed to prevent blockage by river debris with 3 no penstocks fitted on the internal walls to control the flow of the river through the structure. A temporary diversion pipeline was laid at the outset of the works to divert the river with the new pipeline being cored into the side of the existing culvert down stream. A temporary dam was then erected to divert water flow to the new pipeline. A 700mm deep blinding layer was then poured before the main concrete works commenced. The structure has been clad in granite to blend better with the enviroment and a viewing platform provided to allow people a clear view of the river.
